Dog House Posse - Dope Gets No Heavier (1995)
New Orleans Bounce that swaps the genre's usual block party exhuberance for doomy atmospherics and bleak gangsta lyrics. Definite 3-6/Hypnotise Minds comparisons can be drawn, but the beats are still heavy on the "Triggaman" samples.
Haha, wow, this has got to be some of the most minimal mid-90s rap production ever. That bass sounds legit EVIL though.
Three 6 & the whole Prophet posse at the time (Gangsta Blac, Kingpin Skinny Pimp...) were such a huge influence on rap all over the south at around this time, though it seems like rap artists from most other regions were kind of afraid to fully take the plunge into full blown Memphis devil shit. When you read interviews with Paul and J nowadays and they're asked about their early devilish ways, they're always just like "Nah, I'm a god fearing man! We was just playing with all that satanic/occult shit." Were you REALLY though, dudes?
"I practice secret forms of voodoo culture / Dead flesh culture from my pet vultures"
Man i had this shit Original CD, Had been looking for Mobo releases since i was a Kid...Finally found it at a off brand cd store like one of the few rap CDs they had left... ( I grew up on Lower Level Organization - Wanted by 5-Feared by Most, lost that one too.. )
Anyways I fuckin had it in mint condition but forgot it in a fucking bitch ass niggas car thats gone now. FUCKKK
SUPPORT THE ARTISTS, DUMMY.
Inspired by a thread over on Dissensus, I've decided to get off my arse and start blogging. Don't expect any kind of coherence here, but I'll be covering all manner of musical strangeness that I love. I'll probably be focusing on forgotten metal, feral blues, biker rock and the various convolutions of the post-rave 'nuum. I'll also probably throw some poems and shit in here cause I'm that kind of dick.
Anyway, me and mine:
